How We Verify Our Professionals

Every pest control professional on PestRecord passes a multi-step verification process before they can contact a single homeowner. Here is exactly what we check and how often.

Ontario Verified

Checked at onboarding · Re-verified annually

Ontario requires all pest control operators to hold a valid Exterminator Licence issued under the Pesticides Act by the Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks (MECP). We verify each professional's licence number directly against the provincial registry before their account is activated.

Licences are checked at three points:

  • Onboarding: Licence number and name must match the MECP registry exactly.
  • Annual renewal: Licences expire yearly. We re-verify all active professionals each year and suspend accounts where the licence has lapsed.
  • Complaint-triggered: Any customer complaint triggers an immediate re-check of the professional's licence status.

Professionals without a valid Ontario exterminator licence cannot appear in our marketplace regardless of experience or reviews.

Background Checked

Beyond the licence check, every applicant goes through a business-level background review covering three areas:

  • Liability insurance: We require a current Certificate of Insurance showing a minimum of $2 million in commercial general liability coverage. The certificate must name the business and be dated within the current policy year.
  • Complaint history: We check BBB (Better Business Bureau), Google Business, and Homestars for unresolved complaints or patterns of service failures before approving an application.
  • Credentials review: We verify that the business name, phone number, and address on the application match public business records and are consistent across online directories.

We do not run consumer credit checks or personal criminal record checks. Our review is limited to professional credentials and business conduct records.

Ongoing Standards

Active throughout membership

Verification is not one-time. Professionals remain on PestRecord only while they continue to meet our standards:

  • Three or more documented no-shows result in account suspension pending review.
  • Any homeowner-reported complaint is investigated within 5 business days.
  • A lapsed licence or expired insurance triggers immediate profile suspension until renewed documents are provided.

Report a Concern

If a professional you hired through PestRecord acted unprofessionally, failed to show up, or misrepresented their credentials, we want to know. Reports are reviewed within 2 business days.
